PAL cabin crew strike imminent

Philippine Airlines (PAL) cabin crew have said they will strike over demands for higher pay.

The flight stewards' union has withdrawn from government negotiations and says it now will ballot members to decide when to stop work.

"We don't have any other choice. We have to launch a strike," said Andy Ortega, vice president of the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines.

"We withdrew from the talks at the Department of Labour because of bad faith on the part of PAL management," Ortega said.

Ortega said members want improved salaries for cabin crew, who are paid from 8605 pesos ($A210) a month.
