Korean makes operating profit, overall loss

Korea's Korean Air Lines made a record operating profit in the second quarter but reported a loss on currency exchanges for items including fuel.

Cargo sales jumped 86 per cent to KRW1 trillion.

Overall sales rose 37 per cent in the second quarter to KRW2.8 trillion, but the airline made a KRW209.5 billion currency loss as the won depreciated 12 per cent in the period, raising the local currency cost of servicing its US$5.2 billion US dollar-dominated debt total.
