IATA wants security focus for Indonesian carriers, govt

International Air Transport Association (IATA) director general and ceo Giovanni Bisignani has called on Indonesian airlines to ensure airport infrastructure and safety are at the top of their 'improvement' lists.

He also encouraged the building of a new larger airport in Jakarta.

"Co-ordinated government policies to ensure safety, cost efficiency, effective infrastructure and environmental sustainability are needed," said Bisignani.

"Asia Pacific is leading airline recovery with a forecast profit of US$2.2 billion and strong traffic growth.

"Passengers and cargo traffic in the region grew at 15.5 per cent and 29.8 per cent respectively in June, above the global average," he added.
