Airfreight demand helps Atlas

Air cargo services provider Atlas Air has reported second quarter sales up 48.3 per cent to US$356.18 million from US$240 million in the quarter a year ago.

Earnings rose 188 per cent to US$32.66 million from US$11.33 million.

Net earnings surged on "continuing improvement in airfreight demand, which has seen global airfreight traffic rise above pre-recession levels".

Tight supply in the wide-body, long-haul, heavy freighter space also contributed to a significant improvement in rates, the firm said.
