Delta still paying for Northwest

USA-based Delta Air Lines is to pay a US$38 million fine to settle cargo cartel allegations against its new Northwest unit.

Northwest - which ran a standalone cargo unit during the period in question (2004-2006) - allegedly fixed cargo prices on flights between the US and Japan.

Northwest pleaded guilty to the charge, the USA's Justice Department said.

The staff member most responsible for the cartel activity was fired. Delta bought Northwest in 2008.
