Lufthansa confirms full year profit target

Despite positive air cargo figures, Germany's Lufthansa has reported a net loss of EUR104 million for the first half of the year, an improvement on the EUR178 million loss it made in the same period a year ago.

Revenues rose 24 per cent to EUR12.6 billion and the carrier said the second quarter had been better, with an operating profit of EUR159 million in the April to June period.

It added there was a "noticeable recovery" in first and business class bookings and confirmed its target of posting a full-year operating profit that exceeds last year's EUR130 million.

Its subsidiary Swiss International Air Lines posted positive first-half figures of SFR61 million compared to SFR65 million in the same period last year.
