BAA staff to vote on strike action

As previously flagged, key UK airport workers will be balloted in a dispute that could disrupt flights over the busy August period.

Some 6,000 staff at six airports are being asked by the Unite union to vote for strike action over a pay dispute.

BAA, the airport operator affected, says its pay offer is reasonable.

Firefighters, security guards and engineers working for BAA will start voting on what the union has called a "paltry" pay offer of one per cent.

The strike ballot runs from Friday until 12 August and any resulting strike action could take place from late August.
