BA aims for 100 per cent long-haul strike service

UK carrier British Airways faces more industrial disruption. The Unite union is threatening a further 12 weeks of stoppages from early August.

The union, which represents BA cabin crew, has written to members advising that it plans to hold another ballot on industrial action to protest cost-cutting by the airline.

BA already has stepped up efforts to train additional stand-in cabin crew and chief executive Willie Walsh has again said any further strike action will fail.

"At some stage in the near future we will be in a position, I believe, to operate 100 per cent of our long haul flying," he said. "It is clear that Unite have been unable to ground BA, that their strike action has failed and that they would never ground BA."
