Unite 'divorced from reality' - IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has accused striking British Airways staff of being "divorced from reality", after figures revealed the overall commercial damage done by Iceland's ash cloud.

IATA also said the labour unrest plaguing Europe this year was "unbelievable".

Referring to actions by Unite, the BA cabin workers' union, IATA ceo Giovanni Bisignani said: "It's a tough competitive world. Workforce paycheques are supported by the performance of this company. The middle of a fragile recovery is not the time for striking."

"This mentality is divorced from reality," Bisignani added.
