Boeing, Airbus acknowledge new competitors

Planemakers Boeing and Airbus reportedly are watching Russian and Chinese planemakers and now consider them upcoming narrow-body jet market competitors in the 100 to 200-seat plane category. Russia's MS-21 and China's Comac C919 will use advanced materials and new-generation 'western manufactured' jet engines for their planes.

The MS-21 will use a P&W GTF jet engine closely related to the PW1100G now under development for the A320neo.

Comac's new twin jet will use a version of the Neo's other engine option, the CFM International Leap-X advanced turbofan.
