AIROCEAN DIRECTOR CHARGED

An executive director of a Singapore logistics firm Airocean [AirCargo Asia Pacific issue 156] has appeared in court charged with allegedly bribing a senior officer at Australian budget carrier, Jetstar Asia Airways.

Thomas Tay Nguen Cheong, 51, has been formally charged with an offence under section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

A Singapore court earlier set bail at S$40,000.

Tay is due to appear in court again today.

The board of Airocean – a company he co-founded with partner Johnson Chong - says it will make further announcements regarding the matter “as and when appropriate”.
