FIRE DESTROYS BOTANY WAREHOUSE

Sydney-based freight forwarder UTi says things are almost back to normal and the company is fully operational following a devastating fire which destroyed the company’s Hale Road, warehouse in Botany, New South Wales.

None of the 100 company employees was injured in the New Year’s Day holiday fire on January 02.

UTi has temporarily relocated to its Bowden Street centre where communications and computers have been replaced and operations are normal.

UTi general manager NSW/SA Paul Gowland praised his staff for an outstanding effort in getting the company operational so quickly. “The fire completely gutted the 10,000 sq mtr warehouse and destroyed a lot of computers and communication equipment but thankfully no one was injured,” he said. “We have managed to get operational again in just 24-36 hours thanks to the amazing efforts of staff.”

The cause of a fire in Botany is still being investigated. Sydney was experiencing a heat wave on the holiday Monday with temperatures as high as 45 degrees Cels
