TNT OPENS NEW EXPRESS FACILITY IN MALAYSIA

Express delivery and logistics company TNT, officially opened a new express centre in Johor Bahru, Malaysia today.

Built at a cost of RM6 million, the 21,000 sq ft facility is the second of three new facilities to be opened this year as part of TNT’s RM15 million expansion plan in Malaysia.

The company launched its Asia Security Command and Control Centre in Petaling Jaya last month and is also planning for further expansion in Penang by end this year.

TNT’s expansion of the Johor facility is in line with its rapid growth in the state, particularly since the launch of the Asia Road Network six months ago. TNT says the service, which currently spans Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand has seen rapid take-up among customers across Asia, and has resulted in a sizeable increase in the number of consignments passing through Johor Bahru and other parts of Malaysia.  This growth trend expected to continue once the Asia Road Network expands into Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia by this year and China by 2007.

“Johor is fast establishing itself as a logistics hub and TNT has experienced high double digit growth from the state over the past five years. The RM 6 million investment in the TNT Global Express Centre will enhance TNT’s offering to customers and provide a solid foundation for the future growth and expansion of our business in Johor and other parts of Malaysia,” said Gerry Power, managing director of TNT Malaysia and Brunei.

The new centre is located at Jalan Angkasa Mas 2, Kawasan Perindustrian Tebrau 2, next to the Pasir Gudang highway and close to the city centre.

The facility features enhanced package sorting capabilities, expanded storage space for customers’ goods and also houses a Banking Services Centre, dedicated to the sorting of secure credit cards and other banking products which require enhanced security.

The new centre is also Life-Science ready with a Dangerous Goods Zone for the safe handling of highly sensitive medical specimens and materials for life science and high-tech industries.
