MORE PRICING WOES FOR BRITISH AIRWAYS

Troubled British Airways (BA) is facing an alleged airfare price fixing investigation.

The latest inquiry comes on top of the price-fixing probe involving airlines’ cargo charges announced in February that spread to carriers in Asia, Europe and the United States.

This time a reported Virgin Atlantic tip-off has sparked an investigation into alleged airfare price fixing by BA.

UK and US authorities have launched a civil and criminal investigation into an alleged cartel over airfares and fuel surcharges after raiding BA offices.

The airline has ordered two senior executives to take leave. One is commercial director, Martin George, who was one of BA’s top executives responsible for announcing the increases in the carrier’s fuel surcharges.

Bitter rivalry between BA and Virgin led to an out-of-court settlement in 1993 after Virgin took BA to the High Court alleging misuse of its computerised passenger data.

Meanwhile, the price-fixing probe involving airlines’ cargo charges is still proceeding.
