INDIA AIRPORTS UPGRADE

India’s airports are to get a major facelift at a cost of US1.7 billion.

In all, airports in 35 major cities will be upgraded, with New Delhi and the western economic hub of Mumbai the first to get the go ahead from the government.

The state-run Airports Authority of India will be responsible for overhauling airport facilities in the country’s second-tier cities in partnership with private companies.

Work is likely to begin next year and be completed by 2009 in three stages.
