Alitalia's chief commercial officer Fabio Maria Lazzerini has claimed Alitalia's financial situation has improved since it began bankruptcy proceedings this year - to the extent that it has not needed to use the EUR600 million bridging loan provided by the Italian government.
He reiterated that the government wants to sell Alitalia as a single unit to interested parties who have until November 5 to present their offers. The offers will be binding on the bidders, but not on Alitalia.
The government wants to keep the company 'whole, Italian, operating out of Italy and with the same name', he said.
