Some European rail journeys to be cheaper - EIM

European railway association European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM) is to ramp up its commitment to have cross-border trains compete with budget airlines.
EIM president and ProRail executive Pier Eringa said international train journeys of up to 600 kilometres would be quicker and cheaper than flights.

According to the EIM, with clever adjustments to the tracks, preventative maintenance via the use of sensors, co-operation between rail providers, staff exchanges and better border control at major stations, train journeys could be 30 per cent cheaper.

It is not yet known when ticket prices will be reduced and trains added.
