UK-based Merlin Entertainments is opening a Legoland theme park in Sichuan, China in a joint venture with China's Global Zhongjun Cultural Tourism Development Company. The project includes two themed resort hotels with about 500 rooms.
The Chinese firm will fund the construction of the park, which will open in 2023 and be located about 60 kilometres from the Sichuan provincial capital Chengdu.
"Having been active in China for over a decade, Merlin has gained critical insights into Chinese consumers and has built a broad portfolio of Midway attractions within key cities," said Merlin ceo Nick Varney.
Merlin operates more than a dozen attractions in China including Legoland Discovery Centres, Madame Tussauds waxworks and Sea Life Centres.
