Qantas tops on-time tables PDF Print E-mail

Qantas (86.4 per cent) achieved the highest level of on time departures over all Australian routes for October followed by Virgin Blue at 84.7 per cent, Jetstar at 77.2 per cent and Tiger Airways at 74.2 per cent, according to the latest BITRE figures from the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

Cancellations represented 0.9 per cent of all scheduled flights.
The performance was a big improvement on October 2008, where the figures were  77.5 per cent for departures, 76.4 per cent for arrivals and 1.5 per cent for cancellations. 


The regional airlines were led by Skywest at 89.1 per cent, followed by QantasLink at 88.9 per cent and Regional Express at 82.8 per cent.


Qantas also achieved the highest on time arrivals among the major domestic airlines at 86.5 per cent, followed by Virgin Blue at 85.0 per cent, Jetstar at 79.0 per cent and Tiger Airways at 74.1 per cent.


Skywest was the best performing regional airline for on time arrivals at 88.7 per cent, followed by QantasLink at 86.3 per cent and Regional Express at 78.5 per cent.  


Tiger Airways had the highest percentage of cancellations for October 2009 at 2.5 per cent, while Regional Express had the lowest at 0.1 per cent.


Of the 54 routes which met the criteria for on time performance reporting in October 2009, the Darwin-Perth route had the highest percentage of on time departures (96.9 per cent), while the Hamilton Island-Sydney route had the lowest (63.3 per cent).  On time arrivals were highest on the Perth-Port Hedland route (98.4 per cent) and lowest on the Launceston-Sydney route (67.2 per cent).  


Cancellations were highest on the Melbourne-Sydney route at 3.4 per cent, followed by Cairns-Melbourne also at 3.4 per cent and Melbourne-Cairns at 3.3 per cent. 


Newman Airport recorded the highest percentage of on time departures (95.1 per cent), while Ballina Airport recorded the lowest (71.7 per cent).  Port Hedland Airport recorded the highest percentage of on time arrivals (98.4 per cent), while Wagga Wagga Airport recorded the lowest (72.4 per cent).
