US carrier Continental Airlines is to start charging most of its economy passengers for in-flight hamburgers and sandwiches, replacing them with a food-for-sale program.
The move takes effect later this year and is predicted to benefit the airline by around US$35 million a year.
Passengers on some international routes, on domestic flights over six hours and premium passengers world-wide will not be affected and snacks like pretzels and non-alcoholic drinks will continue to be offered free.
