Pilots of commercial airlines that fly into Israel want the country to scrap a security program imposed by the country’s Ministry of Transport that requires pilots to submit a code confirming their identity.
Last week, an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Tel Aviv was intercepted by Israeli defence jets as it approached Israeli airspace and prohibited from landing until it was determined not to be a security threat.
Commercial pilots, including Israelis, say the system creates logistical problems and safety hazards without improving security.
