BA criticises levy plan PDF Print E-mail

UK carrier British Airways has criticised UK government plans to charge all passengers flying from the UK a fixed fee to cover airline failures.

Revenue raised from the tax, reportedly around GBP1 per flight, would cover the cost of getting travellers home if they were stranded abroad because their airline went broke.

BA said the proposed levy would lead to its - and other established airlines' - passengers paying to protect those who chose to fly on "less established" carriers.

This would be unfair, it said.
