ANA signs MoU with Vietnam Airlines

Japan’s ANA Holdings has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vietnam Airlines to buy an 8.8 per cent stake for US$108 million.

It scrapped an earlier All Nippon Asian carrier investment plan in 2014 when a US$25 million plan to buy a 49 per cent of Myanmar’s Asian Wings Airways was dropped.

As part of ANA’s deal with Vietnam Airlines, the two carriers will code share on certain routes between Vietnam and Tokyo.

The two airlines also will pursue economies by combining aircraft maintenance, catering, check-in and ground handling at airports they both serve.
Their frequent flyer programs also will be pooled.

ANA also is tipped to buy three Airbus A380 aircraft, with the deal likely to be announced soon.
