Carriers cut Nepal services

Nepal's Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) says it recorded double-digit growth in foreign carrier flights of 11.82 per cent in 2014, but following the April 25 earthquake this year, frequencies are down by 60 per cent.

Increased numbers of migrant workers and tourists as well as Nepalis studying abroad generated much of last year's growth, airline officials say.

The number of international flyers (in and outbound) rose by 371,345 to 3.51 million in 2014, with foreign and domestic Nepali carriers collectively flying 4.96 million passengers.

The country’s only international airport saw 95,744 take-offs and landings in 2014, with domestic airlines accounting for more than 75 per cent of all movements.
