As Turkish Airlines sets out plans to buy 450 passenger and cargo planes by 2023, infrastructure at its home port of Istanbul also is expanding.

The new airport will be three times bigger than the present international airport with a 150 million passenger capacity and a six million ton cargo capacity by 2023.

It is scheduled to open in 2018 with initial capacity for 90 million passengers, increasing to 150 million passengers by 2023.

Located 35 kilometres from the centre of Istanbul, it will replace Atatürk Airport.
