Hacker stole US$2 million of plane tickets

A Cameroon-born hacker has been extradited from the UK to the US after being arrested for illegally obtaining US$2 million worth of plane tickets through a phishing email campaign.


Eric Donys Simeu stands accused of targeting employees of several different airlines and travel companies in the US with fake emails that requested their login details. Using the stolen credentials, he allegedly issued numerous flight tickets that he either used himself or sold to travellers in West Africa at a fraction of their actual cost.


Simeu specifically targeted employees who had access to Global Distribution System (GDS).


The phishing campaign extended from July 2011 to September 2014.


Simeu faces charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, computer fraud, and access device fraud. The case is being investigated by the FBI and the State Department Diplomatic Security Service.
