American Airlines automates carry-on bag security at four airports

American Airlines' passengers could spend less time in security screening lines under a partnership between the airline and the Transportation Security Administration.
New automated security screening lanes and upgraded screening technology at American Airlines hubs in Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Miami are expected to cut the wait time for passengers by about 30 per cent.
At the four airports, automated conveyer belts will move bins for carry-on luggage through X-ray machines and divert those with suspicious items to a separate area, preventing bottlenecks.
The technology, currently in use for checked luggage, could allow travellers to leave carry-on liquids and laptops stowed in their bags.
