Taiwan duo deny closure rumours

Taiwanese budget airlines Tigerair and V Air have responded to rumours that they will close because of heavy losses.

The country's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) is to meet with both airlines' parent companies, but V Air spokesman Tang Dun-tai says there is no plan to close the carrier despite a reduction in the number of Japan flights on its winter schedule.

A subsidiary of TransAsia Airways, V Air claims average passenger loads so far this summer are 75 per cent and 85 per cent on Thailand services.

For its part, Tigerair says that the company is "operating as usual," and that it is expanding with a new route to Hakodate, Japan.

Tigerair Taiwan is a joint subsidiary of China Airlines and Tiger Airways Singapore.
