Delta outage a warning for all

The Atlanta, USA 12-hour power outage that forced Delta to cancel 450-plus flights world wide - and delayed thousands more - has highlighted to airlines everywhere the importance of quality power supplies and disaster control systems.


Delta had to cancel hundreds of flights due to the outage, with flow-on delays as the carrier then attempted to position aircraft and staff at their scheduled airports after systems were restored.


Delta customers were told to expect delays and cancellations on Monday and warned that inquiries through all sources were high, phone wait times were long and there probably would be some lag time in displays of accurate flight status from the airline.


A recent Southwest Airlines outage forced it to cancel 2,000 or so flights and even though the system came back on line the same day, hundreds of flights were backlogged.
