Varitrip, a Beijing-based travel tech firm, has released China’s first domestic ‘tours and activities' global distribution system (GDS), with products offering opportunities for partners (airline, cruise and lodging operators).

China visas have become easier to obtain, the valuation of the yuan is lower and China is safe for travellers, Varitrip says, with the majority of its leisure and business travellers seeking unique cultural and historical experiences.

"As traveller demographics shift, the industry craves more supply optimised for new demand. Many are expecting this shift to be the new growth point as China continues to improve its ability to accommodate the growth in inbound tourists by improving foreign language signs, maintenance of main attractions, fixing toilets, improving restaurant catering and tour selections. Traditional operators haven’t been able to keep up with the new demands. Varitrip’s technology connects and integrates with the distribution partners, operators and all possible resources to fulfil new growing demand," Varitrip said.

China National Tourism Administration says it expects more than 137 million visitors in 2016, a nine per cent increase over 2015 for international arrivals with inbound tourism expenditure estimated to increase by 6.5 per cent and reach US$121 billion. According to on-line travel agency Ctrip, 10.9 per cent growth in foreign visitors was reported in the first quarter of 2016.
