VisitEngland approves more funding

The UK tourist body VisitEngland has named nine more successful applicants to secure year one funding from the GBP40 million Discover England Fund after seven projects were awarded funding earlier in August.


UK Tourism minister Tracey Crouch said: “These exciting projects will help encourage even more visitors to experience sights and scenery across the whole country.


“We are committed to strengthening tourism outside London and these innovative programs will help build world-class attractions that will draw tourists and benefit local economies.”


Successful bids announced to date are worth a combined GBP3 million and span the length and breadth of the country.


The nine successful applicants are: The Great West Way (destinations and businesses along a 125 mile route between London and Bristol); Growing Manchester as an International Gateway (a set of leisure excursions and business extender trips for international visitors flying into Manchester); Town and Country (using regional ports of entry as well as London); Growing new audiences for England’s Heritage Product (developing new content to increase the appeal of England’s heritage with the under 35s in the US); Discovering the mighty rivers and majestic canals of England (developing two itineraries along a stretch of waterway known as the Warwickshire Ring); Brit Xplorer (multi-day coach travel passes); BritRail England Pass M-Ticket; Britain Fix(-ed): STA Travel and London and Manchester and Gateways of England (an open jaw ticketing option for selected international visitors).
