BA faces possible Xmas strike

Facing a possible Xmas strike, UK-based British Airways says its pay proposal for mixed fleet cabin crew is "fair, reasonable and consistent with that already accepted by other British Airways crew.

"It reflects typical pay awards given by other companies in the UK and will ensure their reward levels remain in line with cabin crew at our airline competitors," the carrier said, adding that it disputes the Unite union claim that the average pay including allowances is GBP16,000 a year.

Cabin crew at British Airways now will vote on industrial action over what Unite calls 'poverty pay' levels.

More than 2,000 of the airline's mixed fleet employees working from Heathrow will be balloted after they rejected a two per cent pay offer.
