Clear proves biometric airport screening works

As Australia starts working toward biometric Customs/Immigration clearance, in the USA a long-established firm called Clear is expanding.

Clear checks travellers’ identities with a fingerprint or iris scan, eliminates boarding pass and identity checks and allows its members (they pay US$179 a year) to proceed directly to bag and body screening.

The company says most of its users have also enrolled in the US system PreCheck, allowing them to retain their shoes, belts and laptops during screening.

The company says it has more than 700,000 members nationally and will grow to more than one million in the next few months.
