Hong Kong Airlines puts the heat on Pacific pricing

Low-cost carrier Hong Kong Airlines (HKA) has announced daily flights between Vancouver and Hong Kong with introductory fares from C$750 plus taxes peak season round-trip and C$500 plus taxes off peak.

HKA has grown to serve 36 countries and in Canada, it wants the visiting friends and relatives (VFR) market as well as general tourists. Figures indicate that up to half a million Chinese travel between the two gateways annually.

HKA will compete with Cathay Pacific and Air Canada for business on the Pacific but is partnering with Air Canada domestically so passengers can easily transfer between the two carriers at both Hong Kong and Vancouver.

Next, HKA chief operating officer Ben Wong Ching-ho says the airline is looking at Europe and the US.

HKA has 15 new A350 passenger aircraft on order with the jets to be delivered from 2018.
