iPhone enhanced for Yarra/Dandenongs

Victoria's Yarra Valley and Dandenongs Tourism Board in conjunction with iPhone has developed a new application to allow people to view GPS maps, product information and book the region online, as well as enabling a host of other options.

"It's a fantastic step forward for us," said Yarra Valley and Dandenongs Tourism chief executive Mark Challis. "We're right up there at the forefront of the industry with this new technology. Being able to provide people with essential services at the touch of a hand-held, portable screen is something that we're very excited about.

It really is so simple and convenient." Award winning wineries including Monreale Estate and DeBortoli Wines will soon be available through the service. Also taking part will be other partners including Lake Mountain Resort and Global Ballooning, demonstrating the diversity of not only the region itself, but of the application.

"There are more than one million active iPhone and iPod Touch handsets operating throughout Australia and that number is increasing, so it's a booming market for us to become a part of," said Challis.

Tourism-related businesses will be able to offer special vouchers for iPhone application users, via a clever voucher validation system built in to the application. The application also has a 'near me' function that finds where you are, and tells you what is close by.
