GSA Cargo Services, general sales agents for Heavylift Cargo Airlines in Queensland, has launched a second B727-200 freighter on the Brisbane–Port Moresby route. The flight, which operates Saturdays, offers around 23 tonnes capacity. Air Niugini operates a code-share B727-200 freighter flight on the same sector on Tuesdays.

Manoj Gunawardena has been appointed chief executive officer for SriLankan Airlines. Gunawardena has been with the airline for more than 25 years and has more than 17 years of direct sales and commercial experience. He was appointed head of worldwide sales in May 2006 and is currently responsible for the airline’s global sales activities. Prior to being appointed head of worldwide sales, he was regional manager UK, Europe and Americas, a position that he held from 2005.

Air Canada acts to contain costs

Canada’s Air Canada is taking steps to cut its losses. The country's largest airline said its first-quarter net loss hit C$288 million ($285 million) as a result of fuel prices and costs tied to cargo investigations. Its operational losses were below analysts’ expectations.
It has now embarked on a cost-containment program that will see it suspend flights to Rome and Osaka and park four older, less-efficient aircraft.
