Africa's air cargo industry will need to overcome poor infrastructure and regulatory challenges to take full advantage of its growing population, young demographic and rising e-commerce demand, industry experts say.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) global head of cargo Glyn Hughes said this week that, by 2050, the continent’s population could reach two billion or 20 per cent of the world’s population.

“There is an increased labour force potential and huge potential consumer market if the needed infrastructure and other aspects are in place,” he added.

He also said 11 of the top 25 fastest-growing global economies were in Africa, based on International Monetary Fund figures.
