Air Zim hit by strike

Zimbabwe's state-owned airline Air Zimbabwe's pilots and cabin crew have walked out, demanding payment of allowances that were cut off in February.

The boycott affects local and international flights.

"Air Zimbabwe, as an employer, cannot afford to pay the salaries being demanded by the pilots," the carrier's chairman, Jonathan Kadzura, told
state television.

Pilots are paid at least US$1,200 a month, a salary Kadzura called outrageously high.

Striking employees have now been ordered back to work by the carrier.
