Emirates shares profits with staff

More than 50,000 staff at Dubai-based Emirates will share a large bonus pot after the aviation group posted a record profit of AED10.6 billion (US$2.9 billion), its highest-ever annual profit.

It's estimated staff will each receive about 24 weeks' pay.

“We had anticipated the strong return of travel, and as the last travel restrictions lifted and triggered a tide of demand, we were ready to expand our operations quickly and safely to serve our customers,” said sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, chairman and chief executive of Emirates airline and group.

The bonus is tax-free only if the employee is based in Dubai.
