Australia's cruise industry on the rebound

Australia's cruise industry is reporting a record number of passengers holidaying to Australian ports, higher even than the pre-pandemic era, with about 1.1 million people forecast to take a cruise in the country during the summer season, according to industry figures.

For example, Carnival Australia, the country’s largest cruise ship operator with brands including P&O, Princess and Seabourn, will make 846 port calls in 2024, compared with 575 last year and says demand for short cruises from two to five days is particularly strong.

Carnival Australia’s chief commercial officer Kathryn Robertson said Australians "look for holidays that are affordable”.
