Finnair facing massive payout

Finnish carrier Finnair has received some 16,000 compensation claims from travellers whose flights were cancelled due to the volcanic ash cloud in April.

The airline, the Finnish Transport Safety Agency and the country's Consumer Agency now are discussing issues related to the reimbursement of passengers, with Finnair stating it will only compensate travellers for unused tickets.

The Consumer Agency wants the airline to cover passengers' food plus lodging expenses for delayed passengers.
