WA Museum promoting ‘more famous’ ash cloud

The Western Australian Museum is offering private viewing packages for its ‘A Day in Pompeii’ exhibition which will run for three months from now.

Packages include the Pompeii Marquee or the Hacket Hall foyer.

Prices are from A$1950 at the Pompeii Marquee for 2.5 hours and from A$3450 for two to four hour sessions at Hackett Hall foyer.

Conditions apply and venue space is limited.

The Pompeii exhibition, which attracted 330,000 when it was shown in Melbourne, is a multi-media show that tells a story of daily life in the ancient city prior to its destruction in 79AD after the volcanic Mount Vesuvius catastrophically erupted. The exhibition includes 250 artefacts, including animal and body casts, statues, painted frescoes and mosaics alongside everyday items such as pots and pans as well as luxury goods of the era.

Visitors will be able to experience the volcano’s extraordinary power through the special 3D theatre screenings that show how the town of Pompeii was wiped out over a 48-hour period.

The Pompeii exhibition is the major drawcard for the City of Perth’s Winter Arts Festival and will be on display until September 05, 2010.
