UK airports 'need a plan B'

Building new runways to ease congestion at the UK's busiest airports will take ‘a decade or more’ even if political consensus can be achieved.

Airports Commission chairman Sir Howard Davies said in the interim, more night flying and more efficient use of existing runways will be needed.

He also has told the government better rail and road links to major airports are required as a short-term fix, a recommendation that has been accepted by UK chancellor George Osborne.
