'Humans are affecting the climate' - UN agency

The extreme weather that hit Asia, Europe and the Pacific region in 2013 was due to human-induced climate change, the UN weather agency says.

The World Meteorological Organisation also said 2013 was the sixth-warmest year on record and 13 of the 14 warmest years have occurred in the 21st century.
Australia, for example, had its hottest year on record.

A spokesman for the organisation said: "Many of the extreme events of 2013 were consistent with what we would expect as a result of human-induced climate change."
