United to increase Melbourne-Los Angeles frequency

United Airlines will increase the frequency of its upcoming Melbourne, Australia-Los Angeles non-stop service from six-times-weekly to daily, effective 12 March 2015 (eastbound).

As previously announced, the new service – to be operated with the B787-9 Dreamliner — will begin 28 October 2014 (eastbound) subject to government approval.

The B787-9 aircraft operating the new service will be configured with 252 seats – 48 in business first and 204 in economy, including 63 economy plus seats with added legroom and increased personal service.

United’s businessfirst seat reclines 180 degrees into a 1.98 metre lie-flat bed and features an audio/video on demand entertainment system with a 3 cm touch-screen monitor. Other amenities include laptop power, USB ports and a multi-course meal with complimentary wines.

Economy offers complimentary food, soft drinks, juices, tea, and coffee and inflight entertainment. Seats feature an adjustable headrest and a 22.8cm personal seat-back monitor delivering a multi-channel audio/video on demand inflight entertainment system.

United’s economy plus offers up to 12.7cm of extra legroom. Located near the front of the economy cabin, the seats have the added benefit of allowing a swifter exit from the plane upon arrival. Power outlets are available throughout the aircraft.
