Vienna passes magic billion MICE figure

Vienna, Austria hosted 3,685 conferences and corporate events in 2015, a rise of three per cent on the total reported in 2014.

The number of overnight stays linked to these events came to 1,682,966, an increase of 13 per cent and equivalent to 12 per cent of all bed nights recorded in Vienna in 2014.

The meeting industry’s contribution to GDP was up 16 per cent year on year to EUR1,038.5 million, passing the billion mark for the first time.

The 3,685 events held in Vienna in 2015 break down as follows: 1,392 congresses (down five per cent), with 649 national (down four per cent) and 743 international (down five per cent) plus 2,293 (up eight per cent) corporate events (meetings and incentives), namely 1,049 national (up 26 per cent) and 1,244 international (down four per cent).
