New IT system 'connects agents direct to airlines'

Travel agents in the United Arab Emirates are for the first time able to access airline systems using a new technology system branded TPConnects.

The company claims agents can see exactly what airline employees have access to in terms of ticket pricing and ancillary charges such as for extra leg room, bag checks and in-flight meals. Agents also can message airline employees directly to seek out the best deals.

Kristine Fernandez, TPConnects director of business development said that agents typically do not have access to this information, being restricted to what can be accessed via global distribution systems (GDS).

TPConnects also allows its agents to create personalised special offers to travellers based on demographics, loyalty status and other factors. And it can be used to connect to hotels and rental car companies, the company says.

Expansion into other regions is planned.
