Airbus tips more large plane sales

While most of the world is focused on the rise of low cost carriers (LCCs), plane maker Airbus says airport congestion and increased demand for travel will drive sales of 'super-jumbo jets' including its flagship A380.

Airbus strategy marketing analysis director Andrew Gordon said: "The trend is moving to larger aeroplanes (plus) putting more seats in aeroplanes."

Gordon said demand from passengers to fly between the world's largest cities and increasingly congested airports would drive sales of larger aircraft over the coming years.

The A380 can carry a maximum 852 people configured for economy-only seating on its upper and bottom decks.

So far, Airbus has delivered 156 A380s since Singapore Airlines took delivery of the first one in 2007.
