Belgrade airport to grow

With passenger throughput rising and profits climbing, Belgrade, Serbia's main airport plans to invest EUR20 million over two years to expand capacity.

It currently operates close to its passenger handling limit.

Traffic has increased since 2013, when Abu Dhabi-based Etihad bought a 49 per cent stake in flag carrier JAT, rebranding it as Air Serbia and introducing new routes.

The number of passengers using the airport rose by more than one million last year and could hit five million this year.

Cargo traffic at the airport was up 13 per cent in 2014, driven by the new Air Serbia and by Turkish Airlines cargo flights.
