Ryanair to sell Aer Lingus stake once EU gives the okay

Irish budget airline Ryanair intends to accept Spain-based IAG's offer for Ryanair's near 30 per cent stake in Aer Lingus, easing the EUR1.3 billion takeover of Aer Lingus by IAG.

"We believe the IAG offer for Aer Lingus is a reasonable one in the current market and we plan to accept it in the best interests of Ryanair shareholders," Ryanair ceo Michael O'Leary said.

Ryanair said it planned to vote in favour of the deal at an Aer Lingus shareholder meeting next week but its vote was subject to the takeover being approved by European competition authorities.

An EU decision on the IAG buy is expected within a week.
